Current Issue
Architectural Research Journal, Volume 6, Number 1 (2026) brings together six research articles contributed by scholars from Institut Teknologi Nasional Malang, Politeknik Negeri Pontianak, Universitas Dwijendra, Universitas Mercu Buana, and Universitas Udayana. This issue reflects the journal’s commitment to advancing architectural knowledge through studies on vernacular architecture, heritage conservation, environmental performance, spatial planning, and user-centered design.
The articles present diverse perspectives on contemporary architectural issues in Indonesia. The first explores spatial transformation in the traditional houses of Bayung Gede Village, Bali, demonstrating how vernacular dwellings adapt to changing socio-economic needs while preserving their traditional spatial values. The second evaluates thermal comfort in Baitul Makmur Mosque, Pontianak, proposing passive design strategies to improve environmental performance in humid tropical coastal conditions. The third examines the role of the Desa Adat in controlling spatial use within the Ceking Rice Terrace tourism area, highlighting the interaction between customary governance, tourism development, and landscape conservation. The fourth investigates the adaptive reuse potential of colonial buildings along Jalan Kawi in Malang, emphasizing heritage preservation as a strategy for sustainable urban revitalization. The fifth analyzes the influence of signage and wayfinding systems on visitor circulation at M Bloc Space, Jakarta, demonstrating the importance of spatial legibility in enhancing user experience. The final article assesses the cultural tourism potential of Yeh Gangga Temple in Tabanan, Bali, identifying its architectural and historical significance as a valuable cultural heritage resource.
Collectively, the studies illustrate the breadth of contemporary architectural research, addressing challenges in heritage conservation, environmental quality, cultural landscapes, urban revitalization, and public space design. By integrating theoretical perspectives with empirical investigation, this issue contributes to the development of architectural scholarship and supports more sustainable, culturally sensitive, and user-oriented approaches to the built environment.
