Abstract

This paper discusses about violent phenomenon that has been going for a quite long time among the Papuans in the socio-political movements of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). The violence is an attempt to stifle separatist action, according to the government. However, the efforts government made is always repressive and ends with violence. On the other hand, the role of government and media has become a stimulus for the society to make a stigma and stereotypes toward the Papuans. Moreover, there are racial acts toward the Papuans that is done by unscrupulous party in the public sphere. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative methods and the data used is obtained from observation, interview, and literature study. The analysis of this study has found the fact that actions that has been done and ends with violence is because of the feeling of being different and also physical violence, racism, and stigmatization toward the Papuans. This process eventually forms a violence cycle of the feeling of being different.
