Translation Procedures in Pharmaceutical Medicine Leaflets

Abstract

The title of this research is “Translation Procedures in Pharmaceutical Medicine Leaflets”. The data for this research were derived from Pharmaceutical Medicine Leaflets by PT Sanbe Farma. The discussion was limited to (1) translation procedures used in the text on pharmaceutical medicine leaflets by PT Sanbe Farma and (2) translation procedures affect the equivalences of the target language (TL). The data were analysed using the theory of translation procedure proposed by Newmark (1988) and applied the qualitative method. Out of eighteen (18) of translation procedures it found seven (7) different types of translation procedures and 2 types of translation that affect the equivalence according to this study. There are 27 (twenty-seven) data for the translation procedure based on the analysis in the problem one, including: Transference, Naturalization, Synonymy, Through-Translation, Recognized Translation, Reduction and Expansion, Couplets. In problem two, there are 10 (ten) data for Communicative translation (including: modulation, expansion, through-translation, transference, naturalization) and Semantic Translation (including: couplets, descriptive equivalent, synonymy, reduction, recognized translation). The data were analysed using the proper translation and a variety of equivalents to transfer the meaning from the source language (SL) into the target language (TL) to provide a result that had made sense and was suitable for use.
